City Gates Pray is a prayer mobilization ministry which focuses on prayer walking through cities and communities.
It is our belief that the prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working (James 5:16 esv) and can be effective anywhere, inside and out, as long as our motives are pure. Prayer walking makes us more aware of what is around us and helps us see the prayer needs of the area and others on a more personal level. As we walk through the neighborhoods and communities we are trying to reach, we are more connected to the area and residents, which enables us to pray more specifically. Prayer walking draws us closer to the heart of God and His compassion toward His people
City Gates Pray was birthed in January of 2009, when a group of intercessors from Sacramento, assembled together to pray about the plight of the city. At that time our city and surrounding cities were suffering from the real estate collapse which led to job loss, state furloughs and an economic meltdown. We wanted to make a difference for our city by encouraging it’s people to “remain steadfast in prayer”.
The group decided to “take to the streets” by way of prayer walking and inviting as many churches as possible to join in. That year intercessors from 19 churches around the city joined in prayer for our cities and communities. Today, City Gates Pray is a thriving ministry whose sole purpose is to unite cities and communities together in and through prayer. Our belief is that through steadfast prayer along with love in action, reconciliation for the lost and restoration of our cities and communities can be manifest.
